A simple balm, using just three ingredients -- tallow, lard, and olive oil. Keep your skin soft and hydrated during the dry winter months, and best of all, use the ingredients you already have on hand, without spending extra money.

Directions
*This works best if the tallow has time to soften. I recommend letting it sit out at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before starting this recipe.
Ingredients
Directions
- Scoop the softened tallow, lard, and olive oil into a heat-proof glass jar or bowl. Fill a saucepan with water and place the jar or bowl in the saucepan to create a double boiler. Heat on low until the tallow-lard mixture is melted.
- Remove from heat. Add the essential oils if using, stir well, and then pour into glass jars for storage. This should fill about 2 4 oz. jars.
- Allow to cool at room temperature, stirring occasionally as it thickens. Tallow balm can be stored at room temperature.
*Why add lard? It's very moisturizing! It mimics our natural skin oils, contains the same pH and lipid balance as our skin, and is high in vitamin D.
