Why eat pastured chicken? Here's how it's different than what you'll find in the store.

“I can’t trust the food that’s in the store.”

If you’ve found yourself thinking this, you’re not alone. I hear this a few times a week from people just like you.

Maybe you can remember when you learned that “pastured” chickens from the store actually live in barns. Or that chicken is routinely washed with bleach before it’s packaged. Or that chickens receive antibiotics in their food because they live in such filthy conditions.

Maybe you’ve thought, as Brenda wrote to me a few weeks ago: “I just want real food.”

Food that’s raised in clean conditions, without constant medication. Food that’s not washed in chemicals like bleach. Food that actually is what it seems like.

We’ve been there, too. In fact, that’s why we started our farm. We avoided eating meat for several years because we didn’t want to support the industrial farming practices in this country. And when we were ready to eat meat again, we looked for a better way.

Here’s how we raise real pastured chicken that you can feel confident putting on your plate.

We raise our chickens outdoors - yes, really.

Our chickens live on the pasture in mobile shelters that are moved every single day. That means they always have fresh grass and forage. They’re never standing or sitting in piles of manure. They’re getting exercise, bugs, and sunshine.

And that means healthier food for you. Chickens that are raised outdoors have higher levels of vitamins and minerals. They have healthier omega-3 to omega-6 ratios.

And as for the taste and texture? We’re told that people are “blown away” and “addicted to how good the chicken is.”

We never give antibiotics to our chickens.

Our chickens are healthy. They live in spacious, clean conditions outdoors. So they don’t receive antibiotics in their feed, ever - because they don’t need it!

We process our chickens on the farm - simply and humanely.

We process our chickens directly on the farm. Not only does this reduce the stress in the birds (which preserves the quality of your meat), but it also means that we can use simple ingredients to keep your chicken safe for consumption.

After cleaning and preparing the birds, we spray them down with a simple vinegar-and-water solution, and chill them in an ice bath. Then they’re flash frozen to preserve the highest nutrition and quality, and put directly in the freezer.

We supplement with non-GMO, 100% traceable feed.

Another key difference in our chicken? We know our feed grower. In fact, we work with him directly! Jeff grows a non-GMO feed for us with no-till practices. He also mills the feed on his farm, customizes it for us, and delivers it directly to our farm.

And that means we can ensure our chickens are getting the best feed possible - feed that’s local, pesticide free, and nutritious - so that you can have the best meat.

If you want to source pasture-raised chicken that you can feel good about - real food without guesswork, you can order online in three simple steps:
